Burnt Out is a short film written and directed by Isaiah Dennis. The film follows the Muse, a young woman in the big city, as she struggles to strike a balance between her work life and social life once she meets a handsome man. A fusion of striking black and white visuals and original poetry, the film serves as a commentary on the repetitive and alienating nature of modern workplace culture.

The visual inspiration of the film is based on the artwork of Photographer Roy DeCarava. A New York native, Roy’s work showcased the everyday lives of African Americans in his neighborhood of Harlem through the use of light and tone. His 1979 photo Couple Walking served as the main inspiration for the film. The choice to shoot black and white comes from Isaiah’s love for classic black and white cinema.
